What is nonapeptide-1?
Nonapeptide-1 is a synthetic peptide of nine amino acids with the sequence Met-Pro-D-Phe-Arg-D-Trp-Phe-Lys-Pro-Val-NH2. It is a selective antagonist of the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R): in laboratory studies it competes with alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), a signal involved in melanin production. It is studied in cosmetic research on skin pigmentation.
