What is Adipotide?
Adipotide, also called FTPP (fat-targeted proapoptotic peptide), is a peptidomimetic with two parts. A targeting sequence, CKGGRAKDC, binds prohibitin on blood vessels that supply white fat tissue. It is linked to a D-amino-acid sequence, D(KLAKLAK)2, that triggers cell death in the cells it reaches.
It was first described in mice (Kolonin et al., Nature Medicine, 2004) and later studied in obese rhesus monkeys (Barnhart et al., Science Translational Medicine, 2011). The monkey study reported dose-dependent effects on kidney function.
