What is survodutide?
Survodutide (development code BI 456906) is a synthetic peptide that activates two receptors: the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor and the glucagon receptor. It was co-invented by Zealand Pharma and is being developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It is being studied in the phase III SYNCHRONIZE programme in people with obesity or overweight, and in trials in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a form of fatty liver disease.
This listing was previously misspelled “Survotitude”. The correct name is survodutide.

How survodutide differs from related peptides
- Mazdutide also targets both the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, but it is a different molecule from a different developer.
- Tirzepatide targets the GLP-1 and GIP receptors instead of glucagon.
- Retatrutide targets all three: GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors.
Regulatory status
Survodutide is an investigational drug. As of mid-2026 it had not been approved by the US FDA, the European Medicines Agency, the UK MHRA or Health Canada. US regulators have issued warning letters to companies selling GLP-1-type compounds labelled “for research use”. This product is sold for laboratory research use only.
