What is ACE-031?
ACE-031 (also known as ramatercept) is a recombinant fusion protein made of the extracellular part of the human activin receptor type IIB joined to the Fc region of human IgG1. It acts as a decoy receptor that binds myostatin and related proteins of the TGF-beta family, which normally limit muscle growth. It is a protein, much larger than a typical short peptide.
ACE-031 was developed by Acceleron Pharma and Shire and tested in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. That trial was stopped early over safety findings, including nosebleeds, gum bleeding and small dilated blood vessels, and development was ended (Campbell et al., Muscle & Nerve, 2017).
